What is extra-fine Baby Alpaca, and how does it compare to regular alpaca or wool?

"Baby Alpaca" refers to the fineness of the fiber (in this case, fiber measuring ≤23 microns) not the age of the animal. The finer the micron count, the softer the fiber feels against the skin. Extra-fine Baby Alpaca is significantly softer than standard alpaca and most wool, with a silky, fluid drape and virtually no scratchiness. It also naturally lacks lanolin, making it an excellent option for those with sensitivities to wool.

Is alpaca softer than cashmere?

Alpaca and cashmere are both extraordinarily fine animal fibers, but they offer a slightly different experience. Cashmere is generally considered the softest, with a more liquid, drapey hand feel. Extra-fine Baby Alpaca is exceptionally soft as well, with a lightly brushed, silky finish and slightly more body and structure. If you're deciding between the two, cashmere is the more refined choice; alpaca is the more textural, visually expressive one.

Is alpaca warmer than wool?

Yes. Alpaca fiber is naturally hollow, which gives it exceptional insulating properties, while remaining breathable and lightweight. This throw is warm enough for cooler months but not so heavy that it's uncomfortable in milder weather.

Why does my alpaca throw pill, and what should I do?

Light pilling is completely natural with premium animal fibers like alpaca and is most common in areas of regular friction. It is a sign of the fiber's authenticity, not a defect. Pilling naturally lessons over time as loose fibers naturally shed and the textile stabilizes. To remove pills, use a specialized wool or cashmere comb. Avoid pulling or cutting pills, which can damage the weave.
