Couching is one of the oldest embroidery techniques in the world. Instead of passing yarn through the fabric like standard embroidery, the yarn is laid on top of the surface and anchored with small, precise holding stitches. This creates a raised, three-dimensional design that has a sculptural quality you can both see and feel. On this pillow cover, the couching wraps continuously from front to back with no top seam, and it takes a skilled artisan 4 hours to complete.

Is Merino wool itchy or scratchy?

No, not at this fineness. Standard wool can feel scratchy because of its coarser fiber diameter. Our Merino wool measures 20.5 microns, which is fine enough that most people, including those who typically find wool uncomfortable, do not experience irritation. The general threshold for scratchiness is considered to be around 30 microns, and at 20.5 microns, this fiber is well below that.
